Jessica Trains with WEC Star Chris Manuel

It’s not every day that we hear about Women MMA fighters so this month we decided to write about up and coming MMA fighter Jessica Aguilar. Twenty five year old Jessica Aguilar trains at American Top Team in Coconut Creek Florida. She started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about two years ago. I have seen her compete in the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) and may I say she is a force to be reckoned with.

Jessica was first noticed by her current trainer Marcos Demata when she took her first MMA fight in five days short notice without any real training. Jessica got into Jiu-Jitsu when she moved down from Texas to Florida to pursue a career in acting. She moved to Deerfield Beach and joined a local gym which she thought at the time taught wrestling. She trained for a couple of months then competed at a NAGA tournament and took first place in Gi and No Gi. She then went to a second competition that was held by American Top Team. At the time Jessica did not know anything about ATT. Unfortunately, there were no other women competing and all of the men in her weight class had already competed. She stayed as a spectator and then was approached by Carlos Diaz. Carlos asked Jessica if she wanted to fight. He also asked her how much MMA experience she had. Like American Top Team, Jessica didn’t know what MMA was. At that time Lisa Ward was supposed to fight Erica Montoya. For whatever reason Montoya could not fight so they needed a replacement. Jessica did not know who Lisa Ward was and she had one week to prepare for the match. Jessica lost by decision but, it was a learning experience.

Jessica got noticed by quite a few people and started receiving phone calls about fighting in other shows.

“The funny part about this was when you compete in
tournaments such as NAGA you have to pay a fee to compete. I said sure I’ll compete. How much do I have to pay. They said no we pay you. I thought, wow what am I getting into. That’s how I started and I’m still rolling with the ball”.

Jessica is currently dedicating her fighting to a full time basis. She has gone to Russia and Canada and plans on going to Japan to fight. Besides fighting Jessica has future plans to open up her own tanning salon.

I asked Jessica which is the best organization that showcases women MMA fighters. For her it’s Bodog.

“Me being there so soon in the game is an honor for me. The best girls are fighting there. Lisa Ward who is in the top five in the world now. Tara Larosa who is number one in her weight class, and many more.”

Jessica is finding more opportunities to fight internationally than here in the states. While she stays here in the states she plans on working on her boxing and maybe fighting in some boxing matches. I asked Jessica if she would someday like to fight in the UFC and why she thinks there are no women fighters there. She thinks because the sport continues to grow and UFC is so blown up now they really don’t need to show case women fighters. Eventually when they run out of ideas and need a new idea, then it could be possible and hopes she can be a part of it.

Jessica would like to thank to her sponsors.. PRIMAL CHAOS FIGHT GEAR, BOCA TANNING, JAWZZ, PADILLA & SONS KIMONOS, TAP OUT, FIGHT CONNECT, WARRIORS 4 CHRIST, FIGHT ZONE. She also like to thank her friends and fans and a special thanks to her trainers Parrumphina, Benkei, Ouaili, Coach Howard and all her teammates who became her family who without their support she could not gone as far as she did.
