Davie-August 8, 2009 – Three TKOs, one knock out, and skilled warriors created the action at Back Alley Brawl V.
There were two 172lb bouts for the evening, with Sergio Rodriguez (Evolution MMA) and Ramiro Chacon (Atemi Ryu) kicking off the event. Before the fight, Rodriguez said he was planning for a “knock-out”. Both fighters fought forward continuously, but were gassing out by the third round. Rodriguez overpowered Chacon and took the win by decision. Jason Telus (Extreme MMA) demonstrated his athleticism with fast exchanges and strong kicks. Telus’ opponent, Mike Newman (ATT Davie) fought forward, caught one of Telus’ kicks and was quick to strike back. Newman attained the win by split decision.
The 179lb division brought us Mike Mendez (ATA Krav Maga) and Joe Martine (ATT Coconut Creek). Mendez landed direct, solid punches, while Martine was more aggressive with powerful kicks. Martine captured the win by decision. Ernesto Rivera (Popovich BJJ) and Justin Chuven (Club KO) both fought their debut fights. Half-way through the event, Back Alley Brawl V switched gears with a 147lb Sanshou match. Two very tough competitors, John Rivera (ATT Coconut Creek) and Josh Jureidini (Wing Lung/Extreme Punch) took on the challenge. Both fighters looked calm and ready before the action began. Rivera said he’d been “working hard” for this fight, while Jureidini stated that he “respected all and feared nobody”. The match began with clean, intense, non-stop exchanges from both fighters. They initiated multiple throws and hip tosses. Rivera ended the match with a powerful toss taking the win by technical knock-out.
Andrew Clark (Round 2 Kickboxing) met Matt Baker (ATT Davie) in the 194lb fight of the evening. Clark landed fast, high kicks, but Baker’s quick, pounding punches shook Clark. Baker won this match by way of knock-out.

Calvin Higgins was the one punching not me. I was the one throwing firm kickes and I should have won that fight!
